BE IT RECOMMENDED BY THE STUDENT BODY OF OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY THAT: The university establish a flat $15 entertainment fee for Orange Peel, or $7.50 per semester. By providing a financial safety net, the fee will ensure that Orange Peel will continue.
After the cancellation of OP early this fall, the Exec team tried to figure out how we can bring OP back in a financially sustainable manner. With our high expenses and demand for low ticket prices, it became clear we needed some sort of permanent funding. The idea of a student entertainment fee was brought up, and we started working to make it happen.
After months of discussion and debate, it has become apparent that the only way OP can every really be a student focused show/pep rally -given the industry and expense conditions we face- is with the funding this fee would provide. A lot of people do not realize that Orange Peel does not receive funding in the form most student organizations do. That is, we don’t have a budget to “spend”. We are basically given a loan by the Union, and we must pay back the money with ticket sales. As a result, we have always had to go after artists that would sell enough tickets to pay back our expenses. This fee would provide a safety net that would allow us to take more risk and really try and make OP “for students by students” by going after bands that historically would not have been possible.
